Allied Van Lines Helps Extreme Makeover

by SIRVA Inc. |

CHICAGO, January 17, 2005 — Allied Van Lines’ agent Berger Atlanta will help the Harper family of Lake City make one of the most important – and needed – moves of their lives today. As part of ABC’s hit show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Berger will move and store the family’s possessions while their home is renovated and repaired after severe sewer flood damage.

Berger will provide up to 20 professional movers and packers to sort the family’s belongings and transport them to storage – in only five hours. When the house renovation is completed seven days later, Berger will move the family back home.

The Harper family fled the housing projects of New York City to what they hoped was their dream home in Lake City, only to find the house had serious plumbing problems: every time it rains, the house is flooded with raw sewage. The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition crew plans to give the family their true dream home.

Each episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition changes the lives of a family in challenging circumstances, completely renovating their home in seven days.

The team, led by carpenter Ty Pennington, consists of designers, contractors and hundreds of workers who rebuild the family’s home - interior, exterior and landscaping included.

This is the fourth time an Allied Van Lines agent will be participating in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Allied has recently participated in episodes taking place in Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

“Berger moves thousands of families every year and it’s very rewarding to help them settle into their new homes,” said Braxton Dailey, general manager of Berger Atlanta. “But helping a deserving family like the Harpers is especially gratifying. We’re playing a small but important part in helping families better their lives by doing what we do best – moving their household items quickly but carefully. We’re thrilled to be part of this effort.”
